Meet Michael
Dear Neighbors,
It has been an incredible honor and privilege to serve you as your Ward 6 Local Councillor over the past four years. I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me, and I am asking for your support as I seek re-election to continue serving our community.
As a former journalist with one of Canada's largest multicultural media organizations, I learned that effective leadership begins with listening. Meaningful and productive communication is essential, not only in journalism, but also in public service. Those experiences have shaped the way I serve as your Councillor. I believe the role of a Councillor is much more than simply relaying messages between neighbors and City Hall. A Councillor must be a visionary leader, a trusted liaison, and a strong advocate who listens carefully, represents the voices of Ward 6 at the Council table, and works collaboratively to build a stronger, safer, and more vibrant community.
From my very first day in office, I made a simple commitment: to be accessible, responsive, and present. I have personally responded to every email and phone call I have received because I believe every neighbor deserves to be heard and every concern deserves attention.
Serving as your Councillor has been my full-time commitment over the past four years. Without competing professional obligations, I have been able to devote my full attention, energy, and time to serving Ward 6 neighbors, being available when you need me, and working every day to address the issues that matter most to our community.
My commitment to our community has never been limited to election time. Not only during the campaign period, but throughout my entire term, I have spent countless hours walking our neighborhoods, visiting residents, and meeting with families, seniors, local businesses, and community organizations. I believe the best way to represent our community is to be present, to listen, and to understand firsthand the issues that matter most to the people who live here. These ongoing conversations have enabled me to bring your voices directly to Council and advocate for practical solutions that reflect our community's priorities.
At City Hall, I have worked diligently to advocate for Ward 6 by proposing and supporting numerous motionsthat strengthen our community, improve municipal services, and enhance the quality of life for neighbors. Every decision I have made has been guided by one question: "How will this benefit the people of Ward 6?"
Building a strong community goes beyond Council meetings. Every year, I have proudly hosted three to four community events that bring neighbors together, celebrate our diversity, and strengthen the connections that make Ward 6 such a wonderful place to live. I have also participated in countless community events and worked closely with neighbors from the many cultural and ethnic communities that call Ward 6 home. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and I remain committed to ensuring every neighbor feels represented, respected, and included.
Serving as your Councillor has never been about politics, it has always been about people. Whether helping neighbors navigate City services, addressing neighborhood concerns, or advocating for long-term improvements, I have worked every day to earn your trust through action, integrity, accountability, and results.
While I am proud of what we have accomplished together, there is still more work to do. I respectfully ask for your support and your vote so I can continue serving Ward 6 with the same accessibility and dedication that I have demonstrated over the past four years. Together, we can continue building an even stronger Ward 6 and an even better Richmond Hill.
Thank you for your confidence, your encouragement, and the opportunity to serve our community. It has been a privilege to represent you, and I look forward to continuing to work with you for a brighter future for Ward 6.
Sincerely,
Michael Shiu
